I can’t believe it’s been 15 years since I completed my Design Crafts qualification at Kensington & Chelsea College (KCC). It has also been 15 years since I showcased my signature ‘Formations’ collection – and the inspirations behind my body of work – for the first time in public at the end of year college exhibition. Take a look at the very blurry photo below from 2005.
The rest, as they say, is history…
How is this 15 years ago?!
Following on from this, I in fact ended up staying on at KCC for another year. I completed a professional diploma in Visual Arts. We then exhibited as a college at New Designers in 2006.
In 2007 I was one of the few selected for the ‘One Year On’ section of New Designers. That is when things really took off.
And what an amazing 15 years it has been…
As well as having had the opportunity to create a signature collection that was successful, I have had the pleasure of meeting and exhibiting with some of the most talented craftsmen and women in the country and Europe.
I also set up a studio in Central London. This was only a couple of minutes walk from Hatton Garden (London’s historic jewellery quarter), and had my jewellery stocked in amazing galleries across the UK.
Aside from my own professional practice, I have had the opportunity to work at the Goldsmiths’ Centre, The Festival of Silver and have helped run Dazzle Exhibition at the iconic OXO Tower.
Little did I know all of this would happen when the Formations collection was first on show back in 2005.
I hope that over the next 15 years to come, I have the opportunity to use all of the experience and education I have to contribute to the crafts and jewellery industry. I hope to have the opportunity to undertake more collaborative work, venture into new industries and do things a little differently!
